The mystery of hope, peace and joy

celebration_of_peaceNigerian born artist, Yisa Akinbolaji is participating in a group exhibition at the Mennonite Heritage Centre; Winnipeg, Canada titled “Invisible Dignity”. Yisa has engaged in numerous solo and group art exhibitions (local and international) for more than two decades. The artist is particularly renowned for his oil paintings, acrylic paintings, mixed-media, and mosaic installations. His dexterity and uncompromising freedom, as revealed in his colour usage, has earned him several commissioned projects in mosaic installations. Yisa has been published in many journals and books including, "Nigerian Artists: A Who's Who and bibliography, Oxford, 1993", compiled and edited by Bernice Kelly and Janet L. Stanley of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, Washington, USA.

Yisa recently installed a dynamic new mosaic for the front yard of his home. The unveiling ceremony literally stopped traffic. The mosaic titled “Peace and Purpose” (16 ft by 3.2 ft) is made of tiny glass tiles in 42 brilliant colors. “The colours evoke celebration and inclusion,” says Yisa. The images and colors in “Peace and Purpose” unleash the mystery of hope, peace and joy, which provide a challenge for all to see beauty in the ashes. The artist has taught art and coordinated several workshops. Over the years Yisa’s work has been featured in newspapers, discussed on the radio, and shown on television. His portfolio can be found on the website www.africanColours.net
